When it comes to national politics, the information available about each candidate is legion. With a few key strokes I can learn a presidential candidate’s policies and his favorite food (McCain: ribs, Obama: chili). But when it comes to local candidates, like those for the Montana State Legislature, the information (substantive and otherwise) is more difficult to find. Even the voter information packet that Silver Bow County sends out is woefully inadequate.
So, I had an idea. Why not try to get to know the candidates for state legislature by sending out a short questionnaire and posting the answers on the blog?
The rules would be simple, same seven questions. Answers published verbatim. No editing (not even for spelling). A reasonable (still to be decided) word count limit per answer. All answers sent by email, so that their accuracy can be verified should a problem arise.
I’d be interested to read and discuss this information. But I guess the question is, would you?
If you think this could be a beneficial exercise, let me know in the comments. And if you have any candidates you would be especially interested in hearing from, let me know that also.
In a perfect world, I’d like to be able to hear from Republican and Democrat candidates. Then we could compare and contrast the positions of those running, but I don’t know how likely it is that Dems would be interested. But if I’m wrong and you know a Dem leg candidate who’d like to take part, by all means let me know. Hopefully, we can start next week.

Or at least I trust that is Pogreba’s excuse.
Before launching into a 647 word rant Pogie probably should have checked to see if there was a reason Rehberg came home so soon. This reason works for me, I hope it works for you too.

Talk about a crappy month to take a blogging sabbatical… I’m not gone, but posting will probably be light throughout the rest of August. Here are the Top 10 Reasons I’m taking a break in August:
10 - I’ve been ghostwriting over at A Chicken is Not Pillage.
9 - Between floating down rivers, visiting family, hectic work schedule and - oh yeah - getting married - August is pretty freaking swamped.
8 - I’m taking Mark T’s advice and “getting out there.” Still haven’t run into Mark T in this here real world - not entirely sure Mark T isn’t just a DNC bot. Perhaps a Turing Test is in order when I return. Mark, you up for it?
7 - I’ve decided to leave the Internets to the experts like Wulfgar! whose scathing ad-hominem attacks convinced me that the internet tubes aren’t a good place for a yokel redneck like me. Also, I suck and my mother hates me.
6 - I’m spending August with Pelosi on that book tour - fourteen people at the last stop, the momentum is really building!
5 - My internet and/or computer is busted - I’m at the library right now. Must remember to log out.
4 - I’m out pounding pavement for Paris Hilton’s Presidential Campaign.
3 - Trying to save some money, I took Obama’s advice and inflated my tires properly. For some reason, I ran out of gas anyway (probably McCain’s fault) in Darby. Walking back to Missoula is taking some time.
2 - I’m doing a statewide tour looking for someone - anyone - who actually voted for Kelleher in the Montana Primary. I may be gone for a lot longer than a month.
And the Number One reason I’m blogging-light in August:
