Wow. Didn’t see that one coming. McCain is brilliant. He managed to steal the thunder from Zeus himself, surprise the pundits, and put women in serious play. I love that she’s got executive experience, a good grasp on energy and that she’s from outside the beltway. Also, she’s from Alaska and went to school in Idaho.
Go McCain, go!
Update: She’s not bad on the eyes either…

Hooray! I like it!
I heard Stephanie Miller’s talk show just now and they are spitting mad, calling it a “desperate” act. Imagine if McCain had just picked another white guy, we’d never hear the end of that would we.
The way I see it is that it’s a serious play for the Hillary voters. If the depth of the problems Hillary voters have with Barack is just a media construct (I think a lot of it is…), then this might not work out as well as he thinks it will. Should be interesting.
I like palin. I like her because she is a reformer. I like her because she is rural. I like her because she believes in energy development but also strong oversight. I like her because she is good on gun rights. And I like her because she is a woman.
And I’m very angry that obama supporters are already chiding her as an empty dress to shore up the female vote. It’s insulting to say that her record and accomplishments mean nothing because she lacks a y chromosome.
I don’t think anyone should vote for McCain because he chose a woman just like I don’t think Barack obama should be criticized for not picking a woman.
This pick is not insulting to women because I don’t know a single woman dumb enough to set her views aside in favor of gender solidarity.
They didn’t pick Obama cause he was black. They picked him because he was good for their party.
I think McCain chose wisely because we need reform. Palin kicked Murkowski’s ass in AK, and Ted Stevens hates her. That is a glowing endorsement.
It will be interesting to see if she has the chops to stand up to Biden in a debate, but I think she can hold her ground.
Kate-
There are always heartless, practical reasons that VP picks are made. She was picked mostly because she was a woman, but of course there are other things that come into play. I wouldn’t get too worked up over it.
I dunno Steve… she looked pretty articulate on the podium too. I don’t think she’s an empty skirt - so to speak.
Wow, what a day for women and the Republican party…..and America…….I feel very good about this woman. I look forward to the debate with Dem’s VP. and Palin I have a feeling she can stand up to Mr Biden any ole time. This woman is most impressive.
But…but….Biden rides the train home every night.
“Biden rides the train home every night.”
That’s because he heard about so many people getting thrown under the bus.
