Good ol’ jhwygirl hot-boxes the initial hot air that comes out of Obama’s camp. Obama’s statement:
“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
First of all, she’s only one heartbeat away from the presidency if McCain wins. Did Obama just concede? Someone get the lawyers on this.
So in a JC Hagenesque unattributed post, here’s what jhwygirl says:
Oh - she’s been a Mayor. Mayor of a town with less than 6,000 people (Wasilla, pop. 5,470). Think Polson (5,046) or Lewistown (5,945).
Palin will be one heartbeat away from the Presidency, and McCain will be 77 in 2012.
Pretty similar point there. Wonder if Wulfgar! will take her to the shed with a lesson about how to properly attribute when blogging.
I guess my question for both of them is what they have against small towns like Wasilla, Polson and Lewistown? Democrats are always uncomfortable with small-town bitter gun and religiuos clingers, but they should check a map and realize that ultimately the decision about who is going to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency isn’t John McCain or The One… it’s the American People - most of whom live in small towns like Wasilla, Polson and Lewistown.
My guess is that this selection caught them as off-guard as it caught everyone else. They obviously didn’t have too much time to put into this statement.

Ahhhem. Isn’t Schweitzer from Geyeser? Yes, I believe he is. Kinda shoots your argument down, doesn’t it? Oh wait, Tester is from Big Sandy, which is called Big Sandy cause it’s really big! Nope, Palin is just a joke candidate. That’s all.
Larry and the J-Girl are spewing overtime. Looks like the Dems are finished.
Obama’s big moment was wiped off the TV and the Internet by McCain. It’s sad that the Obama campaign dislikes small town America and knocks down women like Hillary and now Sarah Palin. Palin is a tough cookie and intelligent-she actually works for the people. While Obama gives a good speech, Palin has actually done the job of being the chief executive in local and state government. I can’t wait to see Biden try to debate her because in VP debates he has a time limit.
Yeah, Bare Knuckles Joe, he’s ready to rumble. Now he’s going to look like a wife beater. Ha ha ha. No debate there!
She’s from an energy state, she thinks the world is 6,000 years old, she’s anti-abortion, she’s a woman who talks the talk (without the walk) - it could be brilliant. Or she could be Harriet Myers.
Mark, what exactly is “the walk” necessary for a woman to actually be… a woman?
The reason behind his selection was pretty simple. He’s rolling the dice. He selected a VP candidate the doesn’t have a pile of skeletons in her closet (yet), that goes against the norm (white dudes), partially appeases the conservatives while reaching out to female Democrats. It’s a last ditch effort… and it might work. We’ll have to wait until the debates to see if she has the smarts and can hold her own.
Nobody cares about smarts. This is a diversity carnival.
Wiley-
What he was referring to is the right’s ability to vote for a person who says all of the right things on social issues, but doesn’t have a record of actually doing anything about them.
Your man George W. Bush is the perfect example of a guy who talked the talk without walking the walk. He had 8 years in the White House, about 5 of which were with a solidly Republican Congress… yet… Abortion is still legal, there’s no Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, Christian prayer is not being forced upon our children, and flag burning is still considered free speech, and Terry Schiavo is underground. It’s clear to anyone who’s actually paying attention that GWB was never really born again… he was just playing you guys like a flute. Kinda like McCain’s trying to do.
So that’s what talking the talk without walking the walk is. And the question is whether this lady is or is not a true believer. I’m willing to bet she isn’t, but I base that on absolutely nothing.
“…but I base that on absolutely nothing.
Like most of the stuff you (and your dad) write.
With the amount of venom the left is already spewing about the woman, it makes me think that they are scared that she may actually be the “change” that Obama talks of—a woman that wants to reform govt to be less costly and more efficient. All I get from the Demacrats is their message that they want to take care of all my problems by throwing a bunch of money around. How about this–I’ll keep my money and take care of my own problems and you do the same.By the way, this is coming from a blue collar guy-not some rich fat cat that the left thinks all conservatives are. Also, LLMT stands for Life Long Montana Taxpayer—
LLMT, I bet you hunt and fish, may have shot a moose, race snowmobiles, and work in the oil fields.
More like deer and elk, motorbikes, and hayfields amongst other things. Maybe thats why I like the sounds of the lady–we have a few things in common–and I’m guessing her preferences are more in line with the vast majority of Americans than the Harvard educated “community organizer”. What is a community organizer anyway?Do they make sure that all the garbage cans are lined up the right way–at least that would be helpful in a strong wind.
Why is it all you “I’ll handle my problems, and you handle yours” type conservatives remind me so much of my kids when they were toddlers? I have to admit it is kind of amusing watching you folks b*tch and moan and cry about government inefficiency when sh*t hits the fan and someone’s not running to bail your *ss out.
Like some Frenchtown residents last summer, who complain about taxes, but when the fires drew near complained about how poor the fire response was. Methinks y’all should get your own island or something with big porches and telescopes, and you can drink gin-and-tonics and laugh laugh laugh when your neighbors’ houses burn down.
Let me tell you about the community next to mine. Lots of govt–city, county, state, federal(lots of federal), and tribal. How many millions of dollars have gone into this town would boggle your mind, and with all these expenditures you would think that life would be pretty good. On the contrary, they don’t even have a dog catcher..most streets don’t have street signs so dispatching emergency services is a nightmare, street maintenance is non existant, law enforcement–handled by the Feds is understaffed, underfunded at the local level, and woefully untrained. Healthcare, provided by the Feds through IHS, suffers the same problems as law enforcement…not my words but the words of Senators Baucus and Dorgan. Is the solution to add more layers of govt, and get less efficient? NO, The answer is to cut out the overlapping levels of bureaucracy, thereby freeing up monies for operational expenses–like dog catchers, police, and street maintenace, not hiring more community organizers who spend their time looking for grant money so they can hire more community organizers. As for your comments about drinking gin and tonics and laughing about my neighbors misfortunes, perhaps you could square that with former DNC chairman Don Fowler’s conversation with Dem Congressman Spratt of SC comments about hurricane Gustav upsetting the Republican convention. Real funny, until you remember the potential for loss of life and property—talk about your party of compassion.
