It’s old news that Republicans, as a group, are happier than Democrats or Independents. There’s a lot that goes into that - money, marriage, religion - all the vices that Democrats want to free us from. I also found it interesting that Republicans have been happier for decades, even when Democrats controlled Congress and the White House.
My personal take on this is that dissatisfaction with the status quo leads to an anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
And speaking of happiness, reading George Ochenski’s tirade against the fresh new majority he worked so hard to install increased my happiness by quite a bit. He seems to hate Pelosi more than I do. And hate, of course, leads to suffering.
This is a shameful legacy for the Democrats, who promised us change, then gave us more domestic spying and war. Their betrayal may well backfire, however. Americans are hard pressed right now and looking for relief. But if this is what Democrats call “change,” why would we ever want to vote for more?
I don’t know George. Empirically, it looks like you’re not going to be much happier if you manage to elect a Democrat to the White House, so maybe it’s time to look to other sources of happiness.
Like Laser Quest. Spokane is only three hours away and they’ve got a sweet 3-story Laser Quest course. It’s one of my favorite things to do in the whole world!

Looks like the Dems are already pulling the same moves as the last Republican majority…only faster.
I wonder if Ochenski is falling for Obama like he did Pelosi? (”You had me at Hope”)
Didn’t Pelosi promise, if Democrats were given a majority in Congress, to end the war, cut gasoline prices and find Osama Bin Laden?
No wonder the beady-eyed one is pissed.
As we go farther left, we find more and more people who believe government is the answer to every problem, until at the farthest extreme we find people who believe government is the be-all and end-all of existence. Obviously, as that level of government control is approached, the individual matters less and less; and when the extreme is reached, the individual counts for nothing.
Thus, it is no wonder that among the liberals we find extremely low self-esteem and a lack of self-worth. And as they move farther leftward toward socialism and more state control, we observe their low self-esteem and lack of self-worth being slowly converted into self-hatred, which, when taken in the aggregate, expresses itself as a generalized hatred for one’s economic, cultural, political, and social systems.
I guess Democrat party-building efforts are just an extension of the old saying “misery loves company.”
RGC, I think you have a point, but I’d take it a step further. Liberals - or as they like to call themselves “progressives” - see society as in a perpetual state of needing improvement. They always notice the problems. It’s hard-wired into their brains to dislike status quo policy because if they like it, well, there’s nothing for Big Government to do.
