Can you imagine what the MSM and the Sinestra would be doing and saying if Bush had said this?

May 13th, 2008 - 3:14 pmRemember how Quayle was hammered for months for misspelling potato? Late night show comedians still joke about it today. To my way of thinking, the ‘57 state’ gaffe is at least as bad, if not worse, than the potato gaffe.
But that’s the press for you. Different standards for different parties.
It will be interesting to see what happens the first time that McCain has a gaffe during the campaign that’s something like this. The press will want to make a big deal of it to demonstrate how McCain is getting confused in his old age.
I don’t know how his campaign will respond, but maybe it will issue a statement that says: “It was not an issue when Barack Obama said there were 57 states, so it should not be an issue when John McCain says ‘… ‘ There should not be two different standards for the candidates.”
I don’t know if that would cut it off at the pass, but it might help.

Swede, that is awesome. dad, everyone knows that libs are much smarter than conservatives, so when a lib gaffes it’s a misstatement, when a conservative does it’s a sign of his or her intellectual inferiority.
Swede, that is fantastic. While I meant this post in a light hearted manner, the point dad raises is right on the mark. If McCain had said, or does say something like this it will call into question his age - and likely comparisons to Reagan suffering from Alzheimer’s. But if Barack makes up 10 new states, or Pelosi is wrong on the price of a gallon of gas by a $1.00, it is merely a slip of the tongue.
[…] hard work of being a lefty blogger along with 49 other official state blogs (sucks to be in states 51-57 I guess) has got to be exciting. I’m sure Dean is a regular reader - you can tell from the […]
