The Left (on Racism)

April 20th, 2008 by Wiley Cody

Here’s some unconstructive input I’ve recently learned from our friends on the left.

* The University of Colorado asserts that racism is about white privalege and therefore a racial minority cannot be racist.
* Mark T postulates that all right-thinking people are racist.

There’s this episode of Star Trek where Captain Kirk defeats a robot computer machine called Nomad by feeding it a logical paradox. I wonder what will happen when the Left sees this…

Uhm, have you ever heard of the idea that the exception proves the rule?

So were Norman Mineta, Colin Powell, Carlos Gutierrez, Elaine Chao, and Roderick Paige all exceptions as well?

That is a good start for a list of self-hating members of the Bush Cabinet, there are a couple more.

Ever heard of the southern strategy? Or wonder why the south votes solidly Republican, and has since the Civil Rights Act was passed? Of course you’ve taken it to extremes and tried to make it sound as though I’ve made a fatal “all” statement, but I say that in general racists find themselves at home on the right, speak in code and understand one another quite well.

Your attitude and style of prose are prone to wear on me - you remind me of something I used to say when I thought I was clever - there are two types of right wingers - those who know everything, and those who know nothing, and I cannot tell the difference.

Mark, really? Republicans were using every parliamentary trick in the book to pass Civil Rights Act while the Democrats were filibustering it in the Senate. Go read some history about your famous antebellum “Southern Democrats”. Only one Party that I know of has a former KKK member in the United States Congress and it ain’t the GOP.

Maybe the reason the South votes Republican is that condescending Democrats like you make blanket statements insinuating that everyone in the South is a racist redneck. Not the best way to woo voters really.

Shane the picture isn’t there to serve as an argument to disprove anything. It’s there merely to point out the failure of the two arguments forwarded by the left and quoted above are incompatible with each other.

It’s much less humorous if I have to explain it, but basically if no minorities can be racist (U of Colorado) and all conservatives are racist (Mark T) Condi - a racial minority who is conservative - presents a bit of a paradox. She’s in both categories: she is both universally recused and universally accused of racism.

There you go again imputing “all” on me. I don’t make all-or-none statements, but speak in generalities - generally speaking, racism is alive and well in the south as a whole - those people tended to support racist candidates, and the Democrats willingly gave them up in 1964 - Johnson himself said on signing the Civil Rights Act that the south would never again vote Democratic. He was right.

Get your dates right - the southern strategy came along later - Nixon used it to build his majority after passage of the Civil Rights Act.

Since Wm F Buckley was openly racist in the 1950’s you guys have smartened up - you don’t state your beliefs openly, but rather speak in code. Racism is alive and well in the Republican Party.

Mark–
What’s this “code” that you speak of?
I would really love to know, so that next time Craig is speaking to me, I’ll know for sure whether he’s using it or not.

Thanks!

Didn’t you get your secret decoder ring when you were born? I may have to wonder Cammy if you are really white.
Code is used to justify that which cannot be justified. If someone doesn’t exhibit aspects of racism, they are still racists, but just clever about it.
You can’t win that argument, because you are looking for facts. And for Mark, the absence of facts is proof of how clever the conspiracy is.

No, Steve, I didn’t receive a secret decoder ring when I was born.

Although, as a child, I did receive a ring that changes color based on my body temperature. Does that count?

Well, now I’m going to have to grill Craig about this “code” and “ring” deal when he gets home.

Just when you think you know a guy….

Brad, that mere fact that you attempt to enumerate them speaks volumes.

Shane, buddy, you have no idea. Each one of those names is a Secret Republican Racist Code for a specific course of action and/or conversation. Brad just called a secret meeting, held the meeting and implemented the secret plans right under your nose! With that simple line of code, Brad ensured a long, painfully drawn out Democrat Primary between two “marked groups” that have been competing for primacy in Victocrat pandering for decades.

Oooh, what was that phrase “marked group” I used? It appears this conservative has done been learned in the ways of gender and race studies.

Yes, Shane it does speak volumes considering it is a more diverse Cabinet than any assembled by a Democrat President. But, being a conservative I try and steer clear of identity based politics.
